Kidneys Colic -Renal Colic 

Kidney stones, one of the most painful of the urologic disorders, are not a product of modern life. Scientists have found evidence of kidney stones in a 7,000-year-old Egyptian mummy.

Kidney Stones

Renal colic is the name given to an intermittent, but often very severe, abdominal pain which is most commonly caused by a tiny stone passing down the ureter, which is the tube which connects the kidney to the bladder. Stones may be associated with high calcium or uric acid levels in the blood, with urinary tract infections, or less commonly, Haematuria (blood in the urine) is often present.  Therapy: a high fluid intake may be helpful.

What Are the Symptoms?   

·  Acute renal colic (severe colicky flank pain radiating to groin, scrotum, labia)

·  Nausea, vomiting

·  Restlessness (tryng to find comfortable position to ease the pain)

·  Dull pain (ill-defined, lumbar, abdominal, intermittent pain)

·  Frequency (frequent urination)

·  Gross hematuria (blood in urine visible to naked eye, usually there is pain)

·  Fever (when complicated by infection)

How Are Kidney Colic & Stones Treated?  Fortunately, surgery is not usually necessary. Most kidney stones can pass through the urinary system with plenty of water (2 to 3 quarts a day) to help move the stone along. Often, it is very important during this process to be drinking fluids and taking pain medication as needed
